Instructional Designers - must become clever investigators, examining the characteristics of potential users, the learning environments, the percieved need for the instruction, and the instructional task before investing time and resources in the costly production of instructional materials.

Motivation i think comes mostly out of curiousity and new technology can give that sometimes. Making you curious over new graphics or a new way to look at an old concept.
