Tawhid Vs. Life in Vain

5 Principles of Tawhid

  1. Duality - Reality is creator and creature
  2. Ideationality - Understanding the will of Allah through His divine words or observation of creation
  3. Teleology - Creation's purpose is to serve it's creator. Creation is in order, Human action is the only instance where the will of Allah is actualized not necessarily, but deliberately, freely, voluntarily.
  4. Capacity of Man and Malleability of Nature - Man is capable of changing himself, society, and nature to conform to the divine pattern, or commandment
  5. Responsibility and Judgment - To obey God, to realize his commandments and actualize His pattern is to incur falah (perfect deeds), to disobey Him is to incur punishment, suffering, and unhappiness.

Prophets

Prophet (PBUH) informed us in his saying which was narrated by Ibn Hibban, that Allah sent 124000 Prophets (Rusul) and Messengers (Anbea); 313 among them were Messengers. A messenger is someone who received a new set of laws to convey from Allah, whereas a Prophet is someone who was ordered to follow and convey the set of rules revealed to the Messenger before him or at his time. Hence, every Messenger is a Prophet but not every Prophet is a Messenger.

  1. Importance of Tawheed
    • Highest and most important commandment of Allah
    • Worship and excellence in deeds (falah) are the purpose of creation.
    • The denier of religion is he who repulses the orphan; who does not urge feeding the poor.
    • 4:47 - semitic religions error
    • 14:24
    • Tawheed Expresses three meanings
      • Creation is flawless and perfect. Every object in creation is invested with higher cosmic value. The purpose of man in creation is to fill it with value through moral vision and action. Preservation and enhancement are acts of praise of worship in the part of man. Enjoyment of its values is innocent.
      • Man needs to take responsiblity in applying himself to his cosmic duty and to measure his worth in direct proportion to his achievement. Allah promised man felicity and rewards in this world and the hereafter directly proportionate to their deeds. Man must bring about the desired transformation into the likeness of the divine pattern.
      • The good to be realized is divine will. There is no discrimination between places or men as objectives of moral action. Moral life is universal and societistic at the same time.

Muslim

  • Existentially serious
  • Ponders creation of heaven and earth
  • Always mindful of Allah
  • Praise Allah and ask Him for protection from Hell
  • Leads dangerous life of interfering with the processes of nature and history to the maximum degree possible
  • Willing to be judge by his Achievments and Failures
  • Only vicegerent who can bring the will of God to fullfilment in history.
  • Muslims are the only ones with the perfect tawheed.
Life Today
  • Disconnected from nature,
  • no social reprucussions (consequence)
  • City life decentricizes the heart
  • Hedonism (self-pleasure)
  • Lack of appreciation
  • Failure of all religioins to provide basic answers. Have phobias and fears in religion
  • Failure of Christianity over Western world,
  • Secular Humanists
  • Science brings arrogance and confidence
  • The way they view religion and experience with religion is diffrent
  • Mindset is very different
  • Materialism - the luxury and abundance leads to disconnection of divine.
  • Difficult to remind ourselves of our blessings (bodies, breathing, food)
  • Capitalism and Greed and Money are the tools for the elites.

Islam- the straight path taught by Muhammed (pbuh) to enter heaven.

  1. Join not anything as equal with Allah
  2. Be good to your parents
  3. Kill not your children on a plea of want
  4. Come not nigh to shameful deeds,Whether open or secret.
  5. Take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law
  6. Come not nigh to the orphan's property, except to improve it, until he attain the age of full strength;
  7. Give measure and weight with (full) justice;- no burden do We place on any soul, but that which it can bear
  8. Whenever ye speak, speak justly, even if a near relative is concerned;
  9. Fulfill the covenant of Allah.
